Covid-19 is always in the mind of every 2020 WAEC candidate, all are asking when the virus will be out of Nigeria, while some are depressed of not writing their WAEC examination by now.
Students are waiting to hear the final date of 2020 WAEC examination as their hope was shattered by the resent speech of our honorable minister of education Malam Adamu Adamu, who stated that students should not be allowed to write their WAEC examination from 4th of August to 5th September as was earlier announced by the minister of state for education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
The truth is that his excellency president Muhammadu Buhari have been the hope of Ss3 students to announce the final date of 2020 WAEC examination as he had earlier approved safe reopening of schools for graduating students, for them to prepare for their exams. Also, the house of representatives is requesting for president Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider before canceling 2020 WAEC examination which the motion was moved by Nnolim Nnaji.
As regards to the final date of 2020 WAEC examination, all Ss3 students should note that some state governors have decided to agree on the their final date of WAEC commencement, as president Muhammadu Buhari had earlier given powers to state governments to decide when to lift ban placed in some activities in their state.
In sync with the powers vested in them by president Muhammadu Buhari, six South-Western states in Nigeria have indicated that they are ready to permit their Ss3 students to write their 2020 WAEC examination, and they agreed that every student preparing for his or her Senior School Certificate examination should resume on 3rd of August 2020 and the final date of 2020 WAEC commencement may be on 24th of August 2020 based on the federal government approval.
After the meeting it was agreed by so many south west state governors, commissioners for education and others that Ss3 students should be allowed to resume on the 3rd of August 2020 in preparation of their WAEC examination. Hereby concluding 24th of August 2020 as the final date of 2020 WAEC commencement if agreed by the federal government.
In addition to this, the six south western states have decided to have meeting with the federal government as regards to the decision of postponement of WAEC examination to 24th of August 2020.
It was also revealed that Oyo, Ondo, Lagos, Osun and Ekiti state would approach WAEC seeking an extension of WAEC examination to commence on August 24th 2020 being the final date of 2020 WAEC commencement, according to the agreement of state governors.
In conclusion, WAEC candidates should note that if this final date of 2020 WAEC commencement is to be approved by the federal government, all the preventive measures given by the Nigeria center for disease control must be strictly adhered.
Some of the measures every student should note are:
1. Social distancing
In the exam hall sitting arrangement should be made for all candidates in order to stop the spread of the virus from one candidate to another.
2. Compulsory wearing of face masks
Face masks is compulsory for all 2020 WAEC candidate as it will help them to prevent themselves from being affected by coronavirus.
3. At the entrance of the exam hall, sanitizer and running water should be provided for students
Hand sanitizer and running water is also important in curbing the spread of the deadly virus called covid-19.
All these measures are to be properly adhered by all 2020 WAEC candidates as the final date of 2020 WAEC commencement is agreed to be on 24th of August 2020 by state governors.
